Notes and recordings

Elsekeep keeps notes, recordings, transcripts and generated structures in the application's local storage.

The core note-taking flow does not require an Elsekeep account.

Original content remains available alongside generated content where the note contains both.

Artificial intelligence can make mistakes; review generated text and suggested actions before relying on them.

Your device backups may include notes and recordings, depending on your system backup settings.

Local storage is not a promise that content never appears in an operating-system backup.

Processing and downloads

On-device transcription and structuring use the processing options available on your device.

Some options require a model or language-asset download before they work.

Download services receive the network information needed to deliver those files, such as the requested resource and connection information.

Internet access may therefore be needed for setup even when later processing happens on the device.

After you grant that provider permission in Settings and explicitly configure and use a cloud structuring provider, Elsekeep sends the text needed for that request to the selected provider using your credentials.

The current provider choices include Anthropic, OpenAI, Google AI Studio, Moonshot and Alibaba Model Studio.

Cloud structuring uses note text; it is separate from the local audio recording and transcription flow.

Provider credentials are stored in the device Keychain and transmitted to that provider to authenticate requests.

Saving or checking a key sends a small synthetic validation request with no note content; this does not authorize note sharing.

You can withdraw note-sharing permission in the provider settings or remove its key.

Withdrawal stops future dispatches and cannot recall a request already sent.

Changing back to an on-device option stops future cloud structuring requests from that option; it does not erase requests already received by the provider.

Providers apply their own terms and retention practices to your account.

Elsekeep does not promise that a third-party service retains nothing or that every service has identical privacy terms.

Links, exports and integrations

Loading a link preview may contact the linked website and download its title, images or icon.

These requests disclose ordinary connection information to that website and its content hosts.

Preview content may be cached locally, including in the shared container used by the app and its extension.

When you export or share, the content you select goes to the destination you choose.

Notion connection and export are unavailable in this beta, including automatic exports configured in an earlier development version.

The app does not contact Notion or Elsekeep's former Notion token service in this build.

Existing local connection settings are preserved without being used; copies previously exported to Notion remain there under your Notion account settings.

An Obsidian vault may be stored locally or in a location managed by a file provider you select.

Audio is included where you explicitly enable or select an audio export.

If you enable automatic exports, eligible later changes can be sent to that configured destination until you turn the option off.

Exported files and content copied to other services follow those destinations' access, backup and retention settings.

Permissions, reminders and companions

Microphone access is used when you choose to record audio.

Notification permission is used for daily invitations to revisit your notes; the notification does not include a personal note summary.

Reminder and calendar access supports the actions you review and approve, and their displayed status.

Permissions can be changed in iOS Settings.

Widgets and the share extension use an App Group to exchange the data needed for their features.

The Apple Watch companion transfers recordings to your iPhone and maintains transfer/recovery state.

Content shown by widgets or recording activities may be visible on your device's system surfaces according to your settings.

Measurement and beta feedback

The release configuration prepared for this first beta does not configure Elsekeep's optional analytics transport.

There is no advertising tracking integration in this candidate.

If a future release enables optional product measurement, its disclosure and consent controls must be updated before that release is distributed.

Apple TestFlight handles installation, beta feedback and beta diagnostics through Apple's own service.

Information you deliberately send through support, including your message, contact details and attachments, is used to investigate the issue and reply.

Check screenshots and attachments for private content before sending them.

Never send a cloud-provider secret or your whole library merely to identify the installed build.

Retention and deletion

Saved notes remain in local storage until you remove them or their containing app data.

The scope of a deletion depends on the note and its sessions, as described by the application's confirmation.

Deleting a note does not withdraw copies already exported, backups maintained by the operating system, content previously sent to a cloud provider, or calendar/reminder items created outside Elsekeep.

Some technical caches and transfer metadata have their own lifecycle and are not a promise of immediate secure erasure.

Removing a provider credential in Settings stops Elsekeep from using that saved credential for future requests.

Keys may have a lifecycle distinct from app documents, so do not rely on uninstalling the app to revoke a credential at its provider.

Support correspondence is kept while the request is being handled and for the follow-up needed to resolve it. Contact us to request removal of information you sent; any information that must be retained for an unresolved dispute or a legal obligation is handled separately.

Contact and requests

For a question about this policy or information you have sent to support, contact hi@kevinbarfleur.dev.

You can ask us to access, correct or delete personal information you sent to support. We cannot retrieve or erase notes stored only on your device remotely. Requests about an external provider account or exported copies should also be directed to that provider. We may need enough information to verify that a request concerns you, without asking for your library or a provider secret.

Changes

The effective date above identifies this policy version.

Material changes to processing, integrations or measurement will be reflected in the policy and relevant application controls.
